The Story of Scran

Scran has never been ‘Just a Cafe.’ When I opened our first incarnation of Scran in September 2018 on Alexandra Parade I wanted to open a place that not only served honest, top quality food cooked well, made from the best ingredients Scotland had to offer and excellent coffee. But I also wanted to cook food that the customers of the east end actually wanted to eat and not overwhelm them with dishes they’d never heard of. By introducing some pretty unique specials over the years we gently educated their taste buds to some new flavours and slowly introduced the favourites onto the menus up until now. Another important factor in our ethos was to create an environment that feels safe, warm and happy to our customers and staff alike. It’s not easy out there and having a place to come, whether it be to eat, drink coffee, socialise or even work that you can relax and forget the outside world for an hour or two is so important these days. Happy staff happy customers right?

In October 2022 we decided to move down to London road to join the buzz of the barras and swiftly got caught up in the beautiful madness of the most famous market in Scotland. What a great 2 plus years we’ve had! Making new friends, cooking new food and generally just soaking up the east end vibes. We’ve seen regulars have babies (not literally) shared in the grief of regulars losing family and loved ones, new puppies coming, old pups going… even 2 cats! It’s just been one huge family roller coaster and we’ve loved every minute!

Along Came Roadie

But alas the time has come to move onto bigger and hopefully better things with the latest incarnation “SCRAN + ROADIE”. We’ve joined forces with Jonathan and his team from WORQ group who have an absolute wealth of experience in the hospitality sector and their energy is a complete match for Scran. One of the biggest reasons we hooked up with the team was to expand not only the size of Scran but to add on another layer in the shape of a 20 inch pizza! New York style to be specific.

I have an unhealthy obsession with the NY slice so I told myself I would only open a pizza place if we got the best pizza chefs on board. Which we’ve only gone and done! Picking up one of the finest pizza chefs from the busiest pizza restaurant in Glasgow (Paesano) and another 2 from the 2nd busiest pizza place in Glasgow (Civerinos), bringing them together and creating a very SCRAN type menu with 7 different pizzas and 2 cracking sides. Not only can you buy a whole 20″ pizza to feed the family, but you can select single slices too, or a “Roadie” (see what we did there) Expect it to be crispy, cheesy, full of unique and classic flavours and zero flop slices with the lightest crust to dip into our delicious sauces along with all your favourite scran dishes and sides…….
